Can Painting Exist Without Harmony?

True painting is born not only from artistic skill but also from an artist’s ability to feel the world. The great masters of the past approached nature as attentive companions. They observed the first rays of sunlight touching the morning dew, the cool colors of dawn gradually giving way to the brightness of day, and finally dissolving into the golden glow of sunset. Within these transitions they discovered harmony, rhythm, and a profound meaning of existence.
Landscape painting has always sought to convey more than the outward appearance of nature. It strives to reveal its inner spirit. Forests, rivers, clouds, and fields become part of a living world in which humanity finds its place. A painting becomes a space for contemplation, inviting the viewer to pause, reflect, and reconnect with the natural world.
Against this backdrop, many forms of contemporary art remain a subject of debate. Too often, technical mastery, understanding of color, and compositional balance are replaced by random forms, chaotic marks, and provocation for its own sake. Such works are frequently presented as art simply because they occupy gallery walls and are accompanied by elaborate theoretical explanations.
Where classical artists devoted years to studying nature and refining their craft, much of today's artistic experimentation appears to disregard the very foundations of painting. Instead of a dialogue with the world, there is often a desire to shock; instead of beauty, deliberate carelessness; instead of harmony, visual noise.
Of course, not all contemporary art deserves such criticism. Many talented modern artists continue to search for meaningful and innovative forms of expression. Yet it is difficult to ignore the fact that a considerable part of contemporary artistic culture has lost the deep connection with nature and human emotion that formed the heart of painting for centuries.
This is why works that capture the breath of nature, the movement of light from dawn to sunset, and the timeless beauty of the world around us continue to touch people deeply. They remind us of a harmony that exists beyond fashion, trends, and artistic manifestos.
I am Viktor Yushkevich, a landscape painter devoted to preserving this harmony through art. My paintings seek to capture the beauty of nature, its changing moods, its light, and its silence—qualities that are increasingly overlooked in the rush of modern life.

Your article is well said. The more advanced our world gets, the more people forget nature is where we come from; its where we tap into the interconnectness of all things. Pretty splotches on your wall might match your rug and throw pillows but its empty. Nothing will ever compare to the paintings that reach your heart and soul.
